When Adela and her elderly companion Mrs Moore arrive in the Indian town of Chandrapore, they quickly feel trapped by its ins ular and prejudiced British community. Determined to explore the real India', they seek the guidance of the charming and mercurial Dr Aziz, a cultivated Indian Muslim. But a mysterious incident occurs while they are exploring the Marabar caves with Aziz, and the well-respected doctor soon finds himself at the centre of a scandal that rouses violent passions among both the British and their Indian subjects. A masterly portrait of a society in the grip of imperialism, A Passage to India compellingly depicts the fate of individuals caught between the great political and cultural conflicts of the modern world.

E. M. Forster’s A Passage to India explores the difficulty in the mutual understanding and cohabitation of the British and the Indian people in British India in the early twentieth century. The major events centers on an alleged attempted rape. Dr. Aziz, t...

Chapter 10 THE heat had leapt forward in the last hour, the street was deserted as if a catastrophe had cleaned off humanity during the in...

I find this reading experience quite disturbing, for no one in this novel is adorable enough. Aziz is certainly the star of the book, his words, especially when he is disturbed, are quite sincere and sharp; however, most of the times he can make one so irri...

2010.8.5 ...They said in their hundred voices 'No, not yet,' and the sky said 'No, not there.' 我明明很不喜欢同性爱,可是为什么就是这么爱同性爱作家呢?!Forster shelters me from the rest of the world, offers me the ultimate tranquility, and helps me see beauty.
