Written by a literature author. The structure and lexicon of these sentences are kind of hard to understand. But after you read through it, you will have a great lift on the ability to analyze the complex sentences. Concerning to the book itself, it talks about how Japanese grow into such an exotic conduct of life and strange behaviors.

一个从未去过日本的人类学家,为美国战后政策提供参考所著。虽成书于70年前,但依然是了解日本文化的佳作: 忠,孝,恩与恩返,义理,似曾相识,而又不尽相同。育儿一章尤其细致入微,英美视角的剖析,对中国父母也很有借鉴意义。最有意思的是结语:作者认为日本军国主义与普鲁士威权主义有本质不同,且西式民选政府并不适用于东方文化,建议麦克阿瑟放弃德国占领模式,保留日本政府,仅以委员会形式间接参与政治。

在了解我们那个奇怪邻居的问题上,这本书是一个很好的注解,可以避免国内作者习惯性的偏见。西方研究者对日本人和对中国人一样不了解,反而可以中立的对我们进行比较。
