研究作为“文本/表演”的仪式，18世纪的确是较为特殊的对象。而从内容上看，作者的理论建构与事实论述间有着比较明显的空隙，乃至偏移。总的来说，这是一部适合西方读者的作品；对于中国的读者，尤其是研究者而言，也只能做到有限的启发而已。作者的知识似乎过于聚焦于纸面上的清帝国，对整体的帝国历史缺乏深入认识。

三星半。将礼作为一种话语，包含了“仪式化”这个组成部分，强调主体生产和由此流转的意义。部分视角蛮有启发，但整个的思路及要解决的相应问题还是有些拎不清。

为清代礼学包裹上了人类学的话语，许多常见的讨论，都变得特别奇怪了。我认为清代礼学不太适合这么做，人类学分析适合于早期历史。但问题思路还是能备作参考的。

关于古代中国，礼是非常值得研究的一个话题。作者搜集了许多文献，可能由于资料整合，以及作者想处理的问题太多，使文章显得有些碎片化，有些凌乱，但用心慢慢看还是有思路预设其中的。
