欧立德（Mark C. Elliott），哈佛大学东亚语言与文明系讲座教授、哈佛大学历史与东亚语言博士委员会主席，主要研究领域为清史、内陆亚洲史，是北美汉学界“新清史”研究的重要学者。著有《满洲之路：八旗制度与清代的民族认同》（The Manchu Way: The Eight Banners and Ethnic Identity in Late Imperial China, 2001）、合编《新清帝国史：清朝在承德建立的内陆亚洲帝国》（New Qing Imperial History: The Making of Inner Asian Empire at Qing Chengde, 2004）、《镶红旗档案：清代八旗研究指南及东洋文库所藏史料目录》（The Archives of the Bordered Red Banner: Research Guide to the Qing Eight Banners and Catalogue of Materials in the Toyo Bunko, 2001）等。

以一个美国学者的视角来写中国人所皆知的皇帝，写给外国读者做普及，效果原本很好。但如果又翻译回中文，让中国读者来随着美国作者的思绪，了解乾隆，似乎并十分解渴，甚至也与原本的判断有些出入。 但书中重要的可取之处，就是作者在展示乾隆的成长历史同时，会加入同时期欧洲...

这本不到三百页的书是一天翻完的。单位每年的体检，在深圳市麒麟山庄夜宿一晚，那里有个体检中心，环境说不上雅致，倒也清净。夜晚虫鸣，桂香暗袭，白天阳光泼洒不觉炎热，夜晚凉风拂衣不知寒意，这便是南国最好的时节了。山庄有湖，有果园，有大树，有远处的低山，沿小湖走上...

A fair summary of recent studies on Qing(or 18th century China) history, with concise narratives and analysis on Qianlong. After all, you can not demand too much from a biography...

其实我觉得挺好看的，全面，客观，又不乏人文情怀和娱乐性。比较少(但精确)的分析和较多的叙述， 我觉得是入门级读物比较好的范本。当然，如果我不用一天读完还要写一篇论文的话，我会更享受的。

中文讀者也許覺得太淺，但中西比較的部份滿有趣的
