我們以為是“人道”以及“現代”的這些事物與事實真的就停留在它們的字麵意義上嗎？再往深處追溯到底能夠發現什麼？是真理還是虛無？還是善惡皆模糊的一個境域？福柯在第一章提到的“technology of power”就是他這本書宗旨，也是對“人道主義”其本質的精闢概括。尤其打雞血的是福柯在the condemned一章收尾所言撰寫曆史的原因：Writing a history of the past in terms of the present? No, he is writing the history of the present.
