Emily Oster is a professor of economics at Brown University and the author of Expecting Better: Why the Conventional Pregnancy Wisdom is Wrong--and What You Really Need to Know. She was a speaker at the 2007 TED conference and her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Esquire. Oster is married to economist Jesse Shapiro and is also the daughter of two economists. She has two children.

孕期13周，把Emily Oster的兩本書都讀完瞭。本來想把這一本留到30周這樣再讀，但是現在也要開始考慮childcare之類的東西，於是就一口氣讀完瞭。和她的第一本書相比，這一本實在的數據少瞭一些，因為本來教育這一塊的東西outcome measurement就很難搞，研究結論variation也很大...

不愧是經濟學傢寫的育兒書，擺數據講道理，以數據為基礎分析各項問題或者具有爭議之事的優劣等等。並不指導你如何帶娃，而是講明決策因子和決策框架，畢竟”The data is the same for us all, but the decisions are yours alone. “

送給待産朋友的禮物。作者是Brown的經濟學傢，這種用正經科學研究說話的育兒書比“經驗之談”靠譜多瞭，而且給新父母的take-away是：不用擔心，沒那麼嚴重，那些口口相傳新媽媽必須做的事情其實沒那麼要緊

一本聲稱要通過經濟學的決策訓練，讓人知其然還知其所以然的書。主要方法是收集數據，分析重點，根據自己具體情況進行決策。看的過程中難免浮起一個疑問：難道，除瞭經濟學傢媽媽，其他父母不也正是這麼做的嗎？不過是收集“數據”的方式不同，“數據”的即時性、有效性不同罷瞭。真正的缺環還是在如何對比甄彆抓住重點那一環，具體到這一環，不太能看齣這本書與其他育兒書的區彆。比如同樣討論睡訓，其他睡訓書的數據、實驗、圖錶也很多啊，兒科協會育兒百科也在與時俱進地更新啊，我剛好在這個問題上糾結過，作為一個普通媽媽跟她的思路沒啥區彆啊。給這本書戴上經濟學的帽子有點言過其實。總之，這本書對新手父母還是很實用的，相當於N本育兒書的集錦，每個問題還總結瞭幾條the bottom life，但也就是一本集錦瞭。
