對於休謨來說，幾何學裏清晰明白的證明，和日常生活中可疑的論斷，在本質上並無區彆：它們的“對錯”隻是取決於它們"vividness"的多少而已。而vividness歸根結底隻是一種感情。如此說來，人類不是理性的動物，而是感性的。Treatise裏好像有這麼一句: Reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions, and can never pretend to any other office than to serve and obey them.
