Teju的處女作，但是他試圖用文學去確認個體在曆史、文明和政治中的地位與角色，娓娓到來的文字其實是對所謂西方文明的質疑甚至是責問。而他對個人生活的迴憶和描述則是凸現個體生命在曆史長河中無可比擬替代的孤獨感。他很年輕，前途不可限量。

讀瞭很多Goodreads上的評論，發現許多人對此書的情節不感冒，大多是因為作為小說，情節並不像大眾小說那麼生動，而且涵蓋許多人文方麵的思考。作為心理學主修又愛漫無目的地走，喜歡聽古典音樂然後思考很多很多（和本書主人公結婚算瞭……），我無疑從本書第一行就深深被Teju C...

作者前麵觀察、思考著大型人類災難和罪證，偶爾強說愁來介紹自己的身世，最後介紹瞭一位女性victim，和前麵的大曆史敘述形成瞭強烈的反差，用尼采的精神草草做總結。麵對受難的態度就該是手握燒炭麼？最後的音樂會也是一個很好的基督教space。
