這兩年讀瞭很多與古羅馬相關的書，布匿戰爭，特別是漢尼拔，使我對迦太基這個文明古國產生瞭濃厚的興趣。《迦太基必須毀滅》完美地解決瞭我的好奇心。迦太基是個殖民國傢，先人腓尼基人長於海上貿易。因不堪亞述人的欺淩，大批嚮西移民到中西地中海，並在北非建立獨立的國傢──迦太基。與羅馬帝國霸權擴張時期同時代的國傢可能都有同樣的悲哀：既生瑜何生亮！迦太基也不例外。隨著羅馬的崛起，這個曾經稱霸中西地中海的文明古國，經過三次布匿戰爭，歷時走過一百五十年，終於被羅馬夷為平地。即使有漢尼拔那樣不世齣的統帥，也最終無法挽迴第二次布匿戰爭的完敗。而在大加圖一句“Carthage must be destroyed”之後的第三次布匿戰爭中，迦太基被徹底的抹去瞭。
