这本书被简体中文版的译者毁了。首先自我澄清一下，这本书我还没有看完，准确的说，写下这些文字的时候，刚刚开头。其次我买了Kindle版的简体中文正版、台版（究竟）的纸版，然后有网上的英文电子版（抱歉，盗版）。所以，我想，我无法评价内容，但是对比一下翻译还是靠谱的...

有意思的是，一次乘飞机，邻座的一个以色列大爷一度以为我在读Montefiore家族的传记。聊了会才知道这个家族在英国势力强大，非常富有。他们曾经在以色列建国的时候捐了一大笔钱，现在以色列依然有很多街道以家族姓氏命名

我不行了到1840年了就这样吧剩的一两百年下次再说，anyway我主要是想读三个宗教开宗立派以及十字军东征（虽然six days war应该也很有意思????）。作者想讲的太多太繁杂，有时候文法就没那么讲究了，不够优雅，加上调节气氛的那些黄暴anecdote，整本书整个城市在翻来覆去你来我往的打打杀杀中，失去了历史宏大感。But this is a hard story to tell...and if it’s a biography, I guess the full timeline matters.

明年春节以色列行行前阅读。读了个开头，已经被公元前中东近东的血雨腥风来来去去搞得晕头转向了噗。//基本一个月的时间刷完。前三分之二非常精彩，漫漫历史长卷上人来人往，好不热闹。19世纪开始稍冗长无聊，幸好20世纪又精彩了起来。结合三千年历史，才能意识到1947年以色列建国这件事的重要性，而且远远不是必然，是各种时势与偶然因素的结合。阿拉伯人从一开始就各种内斗作死，作到20世纪把巴勒斯坦几乎作没了。另外一点是看起来20世纪初犹太和阿拉伯领袖基本都是温和派，越接近20世纪末极端势力越强大。
