William Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He spoke French even before he spoke a word of English, a fact to which some critics attribute the purity of his style.

His parents died early and, after an unhappy boyhood, which he recorded poignantly in 'Of Human Bondage' , Maugham became a qualified physician. But writing was his true vocation. For ten years before his first success, he almost literally starved while pouring out novels and plays.

During World War I, Maugham worked for the British Secret Service . He travelled all over the world, and made many visits to America. After World War II, Maugham made his home in south of France and continued to move between England and Nice till his death in 1965.

吐血，這一個個人物都是極品啊！Stroeve已經為Beauty & Genius卑微屈膝到不是人瞭，Strickland爲瞭passion for creating beauty可以拋棄人間萬事到這種地步，這真是終極裝逼，內心強大到這個地步還能稱人麽？！不否認沒有人性光輝的作品可以有其脫離人世的美，可怎麽又會成爲世人口中的“天纔美”？可見後人都是裝逼。毛姆叔叔真心太厲害，言辭幽默用絕瞭！
