比之前看的作者的那本rules of civility好看。一个被终身监禁在大宾馆中的伯爵，在沙皇被推翻布尔什维克执政的那些年里，被压迫的、优雅的活着，即便最后离开莫斯科，那份贵族的教养仍然那样高贵的保留着。忽然想看看贵族故事的剧了呢。

正好看到自己之前的一篇书评说“有些风雅是建立在安稳无忧的生活之上，就像一个美丽的瓷瓶，可供平时赏玩，但经不住磨难的考验”，Rostov绝对是另一种风雅，在糟糕的境地也能保有内心的宁静和高洁，和他形成鲜明对比的就是Bishop，这类人一点不陌生，对方的良善反而让他们感觉是居高临下的傲慢，于是由自卑生发出愈加恶劣的行径。作者的叙述举重若轻，每一个词都能感受到Rostov的优雅风度，不刻意营造home arrest的氛围，但是融于日常生活中的无形的改变更加波澜壮阔，让人反而惊叹它的深度。

一本关于摆脱世俗的书。不算薄但非常好读流畅，作者对于时间线的细节特别喜欢。很多非常经典的片段，画面感十足。

这的确是一个精巧而优雅的故事，它如此的精巧与优雅几乎随处可见Rostov和作者自己的审美洁癖。而正是这种审美洁癖，不厌其烦的旁征博引、利摩日的瓷具和1922年的拉图尔，让这个故事完全失去了历史的重量。

虽然我不喜欢Amor Towles，不得不说他这个人真的文笔很不错
