W.薩默塞特·毛姆（WilliamSomersetMaugham），1874—1965，英國著名小說傢，劇作傢，散文傢。曾先後就讀於坎特伯雷的國王學校和德國海德堡大學，後到倫敦聖托馬斯醫院學醫，並取得外科醫師資格。他的首部長篇小說《蘭貝斯的麗莎》於1897年發錶。1915年，他的傑作《人性的枷鎖》問世，1919年《月亮與六便士》的齣版確立瞭他作為長篇小說傢的地位。他的其他著作有長篇小說《刀鋒》、《麵紗》，旅行劄記《在中國屏風上》，及各種散文、短篇小說集等。1903—1933年期間，他創作瞭近30部劇本，深受觀眾歡迎。毛姆被公認為20世紀在全世界範圍內流行最廣、最受歡迎的英國作傢之一，被譽為“最會講故事的作傢”。他的小說機智、幽默，常在譏諷中潛藏對人性的憐憫與同情。1952年，牛津大學授予他名譽博士學位。1954年，英王授予他“榮譽侍從”的稱號。

刻薄又犀利的女性意識覺醒故事。Life really sucks sometimes，對Walter是這樣，對Kitty也是這樣。得失之間前行的人生。——毛姆真的是個刻薄的作者，筆下的人物就沒一個所謂圓滿的，想看愛情故事的人最好不要看他的故事，都太冷酷到底。

小時候讀過中文版的高三那年元旦節有電影我和夢夢翹瞭元旦晚會去三峽廣場看瞭傷城之後夢夢說麵紗肯定比傷城好看英文版很小的一本書跟在中國屏風上一起讀的我終於到瞭隻能欣賞道德完美的男人的年紀這倒是終於跟康德有共同語言瞭

看瞭電影再來看書，還好電影改瞭結局，不然Walter實在是太可憐瞭，到死都沒有被愛過，而他自己也看不起自己喜歡一個這樣膚淺的女人，可是這就是愛吧，沒有理由。毛姆果然是女性之友，Kitty的成長就如同大多數漸漸走嚮獨立的女性一樣，生活的無情，刺痛著她們，讓她們覺醒。
