民國環境史史料不全，選地區做是蠻好的解決辦法。漁業也非傳統經濟史的重點對象，算是填補空白之作。梳理瞭很多方誌和史料，也是一個貢獻。

填補瞭民國海洋環境史的空白，應該是目前為止和我的研究最契閤的一本書瞭。這本書的立論其實很傳統，他認為人與自然的關係變化並不肇始於技術變革，而是技術變革所催生的人類可以淩駕於自然的這種心態。但是於自然而言，人類始終都是索取者，竭澤而漁的理想和行動在農業社會和工業社會都存在。fishing lodge一部分完全可以擴充成一本好的小說。
