His current research focuses on the social history of popular religions and intellectual developments in sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Professor Chow received his doctorate from the University of California, Davis in 1988.

作者叫周启荣，新亚出来的（很明显嘛）。关照点在于礼教主义在明清思想史的产生过程，以此考察汉学的起源。史料上下了不少功夫，特别是用英文来书写理学思想，表述基本到位，几个-ism名词也算是不错的跨语言文本沟通。但作者对老派思想史那种辑录文句、分类排比的写法实在太缺乏批判了，简直成了明清理学家著作的读书笔记。可能对英文读者来说比较合适吧。
