威廉．達爾林普(William Dalrymple)

蘇格蘭人，於佛斯海灣﹝Firth of Forth﹞的海邊長大。劍橋大學畢業後，曾為《獨立報》﹝Independent﹞專欄作傢。年方二十二歲，便齣版瞭暢銷又備受好評的《在薩那都》﹝In Xanadu﹞，此書於一九九○年獲得《約剋郡郵報》﹝Yorksire Post﹞的最佳處女作品獎，以及蘇格蘭藝術協會春季圖書獎；並曾入圍John Llewelyn Rhys紀念獎。一九八九年他遷居德裏，在當地居住四年，位本書蒐集資料並為《星期天通訊》﹝Sunday Correspondent﹞、《觀察者》﹝Spectator﹞、《觀察傢》﹝Observer﹞以及《週日時報》﹝Sunday Times﹞等報紙撰稿。曾獲《週日時報》年度英國青年作傢獎。
