scope太大，导致每一个时代的作品分析都不精，元代以后的作品稍好。介绍作品和展现作品的时代意义不能两全。Major gain is learning to appreciate Chinese literature from a philosophical perspective. 书中写的不少现代作品都没有听说过，接下来要好好读一读。

基本上覆盖了中国文学的主要脉络，观点也算客观。要说的是，虽然作者是位汉学家，但其中谬误仍然不少，毕竟文化和语言之间的鸿沟不是短短数年的汉学训练就可跨越。
