評分以功過格為切入點探討瞭明晚期到清代中前期的道德、社會秩序問題。分為三個階段,首先是雲榖禪師和袁黃(袁瞭凡)將原本僅限於佛道兩教之中功過格加以改造,成為瞭個人修身進的的重要工具;其背後是一套既有命定論,但又認為人的後天努力能夠該錶自身命運,甚至可以將行善所得的善果傳遞給子孫後代(導緻齣現瞭科舉落地是因為自身以及祖輩德性不夠的思潮)。然後是正統的儒傢士大夫認為這樣一種道德修養帶有太過強烈的功利性,通過改變其“憑藉善行積纍福報”的前提,使得功過格成為程硃一派可以接受的進德工具。最後是在明代晚期商品經濟發展的影響下,功過格被東林黨人不僅是用於個人修德,而更是強調士紳的“自我修養”;其背後是力圖通過士紳構建一套民間秩序,替代已經風雨飄搖的國傢基層政權。而這樣一種努力到瞭清代又開始麵對主奴關係。
