Antonio Gramsci (Italian: [anˈtɔːnjo ˈɡramʃi]; 22 January 1891 – 27 April 1937) was an Italian Marxist theoretician and politician. He wrote on political theory, sociology and linguistics. He was a founding member and one-time leader of the Communist Party of Italy and was imprisoned by Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime. Gramsci is best known for his theory of cultural hegemony, which describes how states use cultural institutions to maintain power in capitalist societies.

Hoare and Smith organized these notes around particular topics, whereas Gramsci originally wrote his notes in 29 separate notebooks, which he wrote at different times and never had the chance to systematically organize.

葛兰西论述了意识形态与公民社会价值的重要性。他指出“国家的教育和形成”，它的目的始终是创造新的和更高类型的文明，使“文明”和最广泛的大众的道德适应不断发展的生产经济机器的需要。在公民社会领域内，不存在制裁或强制性义务。但是，公民社会仍然“施加集体压力，以风俗习惯、思维方式、行为方式、道德观念等的演变形式获得客观结果”。由此，“永久革命”的公式在政治学上被“文化霸权”的公式所扩展和超越。这种对意识形态所起作用的强调弥补了马克思在激烈反对黑格尔的过程中所失去的东西。即使在今天的语境中，葛兰西的意识形态霸权思想也是有意义的，因为我们看到今天的文化霸权从资产阶级和无产阶级的单一斗争中心转向了更加多样化的斗争形式，性别、性、种族和民族都被考虑在内。

之前特别烦 Gramsci 的 hegemony 理论，其实我也不知道里面到底在讲什么，但是大家引用的时候也没有很好的解释清楚。今天看了一下，觉得文章写得其实还是蛮好懂的啊。怎么会和印象有那么大的差错

Bible of Subaltern Study 看似有地域性但是提出的问题都是普遍的。值得一读再读。。。
