睡前閱讀比我預計的效率高，但是隻剩十來頁的時候，我停瞭下來，等心情更平靜的時候再結束它。故事很簡單，女孩期待哥哥的婚禮能給自己帶來改變，急於逃離小鎮的單調生活，但在戲劇化的轉摺後還得繼續原來的生活；不過，心裏想法已經不一樣瞭。在很多人成長的節點，尤其是生在小地方的人，會被性覺醒和離鄉意識所夾迫，最後有的飛走還有的被現實劫持。飛走瞭的也發現隻是換瞭更大的囚籠。小說要傳達的就是這種煩惱甚至絕望，它跟＂心是孤獨的獵手＂實質上是同一個故事，是麥卡勒斯最拿手的growing pains，但整體基調更暗更無助。
