A work of great personal courage and a literary tour de force, this bestseller is Styron's true account of his descent into a crippling and almost suicidal depression. Styron is perhaps the first writer to convey the full terror of depression's psychic landscape, as well as the illuminating path to recovery.

An eccentric introduction to depression.
評分And so we came forth, and once again beheld the stars
評分A beautiful and eloquent narration of an almost indescribable subject.
評分I admire Styron as much for being a writer par excellence as a brave warrior in the battle against his almost ineffable psychosomatic agony. This is a piece of writing so eloquently and gracefully composed, despite being ‘outlandishly macabre’, that compels me to confront my own psychical demons while moving me to the edge of belated catharsis.
評分同為走在陽光裏的人,他們永遠也不知道和你並肩的人,他們是看不到太陽的。
