C·賴特·米爾斯，美國著名的批判社會學傢。他早年求學於威斯康星大學，廣涉社會與政治理論，兼修史學和人類學，25歲獲博士學位。50年代初以《白領：美國的中産階級》一舉成名，並任教於哥倫比亞大學社會學係。他在知識社會學和美國社會階層研究這二個方麵都有傑齣的成績，則被視為其主要代錶作，他與人閤作編譯的《韋伯社會學文選》亦被認為是權威譯本。米爾斯1962年病逝於紐約，年僅46歲，死後被譽為“當代美國文明最重要的批評傢之一”。
