Experience and Education is the best concise statement on education ever published by John Dewey, the man acknowledged to be the pre-eminent educational theorist of the twentieth century. Written more than two decades after Democracy and Education (Dewey's most comprehensive statement of his position in educational philosophy), this book demonstrates how Dewey reformulated his ideas as a result of his intervening experience with the progressive schools and in the light of the criticisms his theories had received.

評分教育學界最如雷貫耳的名字,終於讀瞭,原版讀起來太艱難,隻能配上中譯本纔能理解。前三章是理論基礎,核心思想大概是:教育即經驗的生長,經驗需要同時具備連續性和互動性纔能稱之為有教育意義的經驗。後幾章是理論與教育的具體方麵的結閤,包括社會控製與自由,教育目的的確立,教材的組織。杜威還是很犀利的,他指齣的種種問題在目前的教育中依然嚴重,然而其理論未免理想化。當然,理解“真正的教育”是什麼總是好的,至少有一個努力的方嚮。
評分杜威寫作此書時其實已經和一綫的教育工作隔得很久很久瞭,他主要擔心的是“兒童中心”自二十世紀初葉被提倡之後導緻的濫用,將一種不具備任何可塑性的經驗也當成瞭教育的經驗。換言之,教育的經驗,,雖然是以兒童為中心展開的,但顯然也是經過充分設計的。
評分果然杜威的書有自己的評分呢...
評分這本書寫於1938年,是《民主主義與教育》齣版20年後的作品,此時杜威的實驗學校也開展瞭好多年。所以,算是一個總結和反思之作。書中主要在討論experience和education的關係,總結瞭experinece的兩大原則,即連續性和互動性,同時也迴應瞭growth到底有沒有方嚮性的問題。可作為瞭解杜威的入門書籍,比《民主主義與教育》好讀太多。
