在很長的一段時間裏，自己好像層麵相當迷CHA領域的研究，後來逐漸失去瞭興趣。大概那時候，有可能是數學很糟，日本史又很入迷的樣子。聽到一些Path Dependence， State Building這樣一些很大的名詞，自然會覺得很厲害的趕腳。自然，現在也認為這一領域的研究，大概仍舊還有很長很長的成長餘地吧。不過，如果說自己真的想在一個技術迅速進步，數據爆發式增長的時代，作為一名社會科學的學生，想要生存下去的話，也許，即便自己不得手，大概必要的數學和統計學或者數據處理的技法仍舊是無可逃避的，自己不得不翻越的障礙。同樣，一個人不必認為定性研究是好做的，大多數人，事實上並不掌握這一領域所要求的高度的英文寫作力和接近這一領域研究資源和人脈的渠道。嘛，此書還是非常好的，社會科學的學生是要思考大問題的

與03年的書相比，這本書顯得更為defensive，反映瞭定性研究方法在米國的弱勢地位。這本書在方法上把比較曆史分析局限於曆史製度主義，議題上搞大雜燴，分析工具也沒有多少實質進展。
