作者写作功底了得，分析视角十分丰富。正如书中所说，美国内关于教育问题的讨论越来越陷入徒劳无功的困境，他山之石，可以攻玉，从后门溜出来清清脑子，看看别国教育的真实情景如何，也是有益的，是成此书。
