弗雷德裏剋•M•韋洛剋（Frederic M. Wheelock，1902—1987）是美國著名的古典學傢，拉丁語教學權威。他在哈佛大學獲得博士學位，先後任教於哈佛大學、紐約市立大學、布魯剋林學院等名校，並以其在文本批評、古文書學和拉丁語等領域的研究而蜚聲古典學界。韋洛剋教授是美國古典學聯盟、美國語言學會和大西洋國傢古典學會的成員。本書是他畢生最具代錶性的傑作。

理查德•A•拉弗勒（Richard A. LaFleur）是美國古典學聯盟主席（1984—1986）。他在杜剋大學獲得古典學博士學位，從1972 年起任教於佐治亞大學，並在那裏擔任北美洲最大的古典學項目之一的負責人長達21 年。拉弗勒教授著有《21 世紀拉丁語：從概念到課堂》等多部著作，並於1984 年獲得美國語言學會“古典學傑齣教育奬”。

最早看過的《Wheelock's Latin》，是從某人手中弄來的六手的影印版。在圖書館那颱老掉牙但是嚮來不吝惜墨粉的復印機上苦乾一下午之後，終於變成瞭第七手。黑一點兒其實不算大毛病，人傢小巴哥都當上米國總統瞭。但是那年頭復印紙很貴，大傢手裏又普遍缺錢，所以不知從第幾手起...

Wheelock 是歐美很多大學的拉丁文指定課本。我沒用過其他教材，所以不好比較。但是我特彆喜歡W裏麵內容翔實豐富，尤其每一課的課後練習都是從拉丁文原著中節選齣來的，叫Sententiae Antiquae, 特彆原汁原味，在學習的過程中很能體會到成就感。在amazon.com上還可以買到配套的練...

實話說，這本書的編輯做得太懶，幾乎沒有校對，甚至連字母錶都是錯的，裏麵的印刷之繆簡直是罄竹難書——一本本來堪稱經典的教材結果至此，不堪，不堪，太不堪。除編輯錯誤以外，其他尚可接受。
