看书评和作者的感觉应该是本好书啊，应该是以老人的口气写给小朋友的书，并且这个老人是研究艺术史的，应该能把这两者好好的结合起来，从不同的角度讲一讲，但是翻译的是在太差了~让人都读不下去了~ 有没有可以直接读的英语版？  

仅仅300+页的图书，可以叙述完地球上5000年以来发生的事情，不要去追求他有多么的详尽，他可以给你一个比较清晰的轮廓。 应该是第一次看到有人这么讲述历史的，仿佛一个和蔼可亲的老者，脸上刻着深深的皱纹，微笑的，优雅的为你叙述历史。仿佛他亲身经历过过去的故事，给人以身...

中学历史教科书难度的历史畅销书和长销书，有多长呢，第一版其实是在二战前写完的。 作者的名气来自另外一本书，《艺术的故事》，那是一本定价近300元豆瓣评分9.6的巨著。我80年代读到的版本还是黑白的，作者的名字译作冈布里奇。 根据坊间传说，如果没有这本书的成功，也不会有人请他完成《艺术的故事》。 国内最新的版本是理想国出的，名字是《世界小史》，好像是从德文版直接译过来的。耶鲁出版社出的英文版是由他的助手翻译的。 至于要不要读，则见仁见智，我挺喜欢眼下风头颇劲的翻译家陆大鹏的答案，“我读到这本书的时候已经不年轻了，所以不觉得怎么样好。。。sorry” 至于我自己的答案：我读到这本书的时候已经不年轻了，真希望能早一些碰到它。。。

我的历史入门，读起来非常有史诗感，但是只能算是历史上，尤其是欧洲史比较重大事件的讲述，帮助认清了很多欧洲的人名，如果能配上地图或者相应时间就更好了。不过没想到贡布里希对中国的认识也就是欧美普通学过历史的高中生水平，竟然把秦始皇叫做"Enemy of History" 以最后一章的一句话结尾，One can be attached to one's own country without needing to insist that the rest of the world's inhabitants are worthless.

简洁，优美。充满怜悯之心。
